Your Neighbor

My family has deep roots in Hawai‘i. My father and grandfather both graduated from local schools, while my grandmother graduated from McKinley and later became the first Miss UH Mānoa. I followed in their footsteps, moving to Makiki in the seventh grade. I grew up in this district, walking to Punahou for school, swimming at the community pool, playing tennis at Makiki District Park, catching TheBus to study at UH Mānoa, and eating at the same Korean BBQ spot I still go to today.

I have served on the Makiki Neighborhood Board since 2017, where I listen, show up, and work side-by-side with my neighbors to solve their most pressing problems. Inspired by my grandmother’s lifelong volunteer work, I believe in taking care of each other through steady, everyday acts of service. I have devoted my life to civil and volunteer work, including participating in community cleanups along Makiki Stream, assisting with volcano disaster relief on the Big Island with the Red Cross, and leading as the current Chair of the Makiki Neighborhood Board.

As a member and chair of the Makiki Neighborhood Board, I have worked to make the community safer and more enjoyable for all. I participated in efforts to protect Hālau Kū Māna Public Charter School by opposing the Ala Wai Dam proposal and worked with stakeholders to have a former hoarder’s home on Pensacola Street relinquished to the city and bulldozed. I also worked to have four-way and five-way stop signs installed at several busy intersections and supported student initiatives at Stevenson Middle School to install bulb outs and barriers near the parking lot on Prospect Street. One of my personal favorite accomplishments is working with the Department of Parks and Recreation to set up Makiki’s first off-leash dog park at Punahou Square Park and confirming multiple other on-leash dog parks. I am running for State House because this district deserves better parks, walkable streets, and a community we can all be safe, proud, and comfortable in.
